Recently, we did a short post on Dexim’s mini iOS-controlled Monster Truck. Well, we’ve now come across a gravity-defying iOS-controlled car aptly called the iPhone Controlled Wall Climbing Car iW500.

What’s the trick? Or should we say, what makes it stick?

Apparently, this RC car actually has an integrated vacuum that lets it hug walls and even drive upside-down on ceilings.

Like Dexim’s App Speed Monster Truck, the car comes bundled with a transmitter that you plug into the bottom of your iPhone or iPod Touch (it should work with an iPad as well) and you download a free app to control the car.

The iW500′s integrated 3.7V, 200mAh lithium polymer battery charges via USB and gets you about 10 minutes of drive time on a 30-minute charge. It’s also worth noting that the transmitter can be set to three different frequencies so you can get some wall-to-wall racing in with up to two other friends with iW500s (you’d just need a cylindrical room).

Apple)

Apple’s iPhone 5 will include a whopping 1GB of RAM and a voice-control system known as the Assistant, according to the latest reports hopping onboard the iPhone rumor mill.

Word of these potential new features was apparently leaked to TUAW by an unnamed but “reliable source” last week. However, the tech news site said it was hesitant to publish the details without corroboration.

But yesterday 9to5Mac said it received the same information from a “source familiar with the SOC’s manufacturing,” which refers to the phone’s expected A5 processor, or system-on-a-chip.

Based on details revealed by the source or sources, the new iPhone will come equipped with the A5 chip, 1GB of internal memory, and an 8-megapixel camera. The phone will also include a Qualcomm Gobi Baseband chipset that will allow it to run on both CDMA and GSM networks, claims 9to5Mac’s source.

Just because T-Mobile is the underdog of the litter doesn’t mean it relishes its place as the runt of the litter, especially when it comes to the iPhone.

The carrier’s chief marketing officer, Cole Brodman, made that plain enough when addressing attendees at the Mobilize conference today in San Francisco. “We’ve made public our desire to have the iPhone,” he said.

T-Mobile faces the reality of being the odd man out when the iPhone 5 comes around this fall. AT&T and Verizon already have relationships with Apple and currently carry the iPhone 4. While Sprint hasn’t yet made it official, all signs point to Sprint being the next to get a version of the iPhone.

That leaves T-Mobile, that of an uncertain future and a fight to get acquired by AT&T. While the carriers, states, and feds duke it out over the fate of AT&T’s T-Mobile buyout, it’s been business as usual, with T-Mobile continuing to introduce new rate plans and devices, including two high-end Android smartphones today.

Even if the merger fails, Brodman said, T-Mobile is in a good position for customers. And even if they never get the iPhone, says Brodman, “our devices are on par, and better in many ways.”

Does T-Mobile want the iPh… [Read more]

The majority of Pandora’s business comes through mobile devices; 70 percent, to be exact.

Yet like many Web services that began with only the desktop on the mind, the early Pandora team had no inkling that mobile would become the runaway success it is.

“Like most rock bands, Pandora was sort of like a 10-year success in the making,” Tom Conrad, CTO and EVP of Pandora, told the audience at GigaOm’s Mobilize conference in San Francisco.

Despite holding on to the ambition to become “the future of radio,” in Conrad’s words, Pandora’s initial goals were quite modest: tuning 1 million listeners in to the fruits of the Music Genome Project, which forms Pandora’s algorithmic backbone for discovering new artists in streaming playlists of Pandora’s amalgamation.

Pandora surprised itself, as it turns out. On the eve of the iPhone App Store launch, Pandora had grown to 13 million listeners. When the App Store opened, the number or registered users skyrocketed overnight, and today the streaming service enjoys more than 100 million registered users, all acquired without spending a single cent on marketing, Conrad says.

All this speaks to the power of viral marketing, and to the iPhone’s game-changing ability to launch developers into the spotlight.

Fun fact: Before latching on to Greek mythology, Pandora used to be known as Savage Beast. Rawr!

Tired of speculation about when, exactly, the iPhone 5 and its iOS 5 operating system will appear? No? Well, we’ve got a couple more clues for you then, you incurable gadgiopath.

The Next Web is reporting that the dates of a couple of upcoming Twitter developer events suggest that Apple will release iOS 5 on or before October 10.

The events, TNW says, “seem to be focusing on the integration of Twitter into Apple’s upcoming iOS 5 software.” The first is in London on the 10th, and the second is in New York on the 12th. And neither event, TNW reports, is limited to Apple Developer program members. That means attendees won’t be under a nondisclosure agreement–so, the theorizing goes, there probably won’t be anything to disclose: by then it’ll all be out of the iBag.

Of course, these dates jibe with a lot of earlier reports about an early to mid-October launch for iOS 5 and the iPhone 5, including a report from All Things D that pegs the iPhone 5 announcement for the fourth day of the month.

Another clue being offered up today is that Apple is reportedly telling staffers at its Apple Stores that they can’t go on vacation during the second week of October (this from … [Read more]
